About the Domaine:

The Domaine des Hospices de Nuits, founded in 1270, is even older than the Hospices de Beaune. Following a similar philanthropic concept, it was established to receive vineyard donations from wealthy local families, ensuring its survival and continuing charitable efforts. The Domaine is smaller than its Beaune counterpart, covering 12.5 hectares of vineyards located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Premier Cru, and Gevrey-Chambertin. These areas are known for producing exceptional wines.

Each year, barrels from the Domaine are sold at auction on the third Sunday of March at the prestigious Château du Clos Vougeot. Purchasing a barrel not only offers a chance to invest in some of the finest wines but also contributes to the charitable mission of the Hospices de Nuits. By buying barrels, one becomes part of a unique tradition, supporting philanthropy while enjoying the exceptional wines, rich cultural heritage, and art of living that Burgundy has to offer.

Elevage (Aging Process):

The Domaine is currently led by Jean-Marc Moron, who, trained by the esteemed Roland Masse, uses his expertise to produce superb wines. When barrels are purchased at auction, the wines are still very young, as they are harvested just a few months before the auction.

After the auction, it is essential to properly age the wine to reveal its full potential. In our case, my father, who has over 35 years of experience as a wine negotiator, carefully oversees the aging process. This aging takes place over 16 to 18 months, during which my family ensures that the wines respect their unique terroir, while fully expressing their complexities and nuances. This professional expertise guarantees that the wines achieve their true potential, highlighting the characteristics of the renowned Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations.

Tasting notes: Gorgeous deep red colour. This wine features an expressive fruity nose of cherry, vanilla and toasted almond aromas. On the palate, firm structure, good balance between acidity and tannins. A good wine for laying down with remarkable ageing potential.
