At Filt 1860, our mission is clear: to celebrate and share the exceptional expertise of French textile craftsmanship with the world. For over 160 years, we’ve been proudly manufacturing our cords and nets in France, blending tradition with innovation.
As a close-knit, human-sized team, we preserve and honor our time-honored techniques while infusing fresh ideas and optimism into everything we do.
Thanks to this unique approach, we export our values and products to over 50 countries, including Korea, Japan, and the United States, spreading the spirit of Filt 1860 around the globe.
Founded in 1860 in St-Sylvain, Normandy, Filt 1860 originally began as a cooperative of local farmers, producing high-quality nets and cords. The company was later led by the l'Honneur family, evolving into the renowned Établissements l'Honneur.
By 1910, the company had modernized its production process with mechanization, and in 1925, began its first export ventures. However, on June 6, 1944, at 3:30 p.m., tragedy struck: the city of Caen was bombed, and the factory was destroyed in the chaos of World War II.
Despite the devastation, Filt 1860 showed remarkable resilience. Reconstruction efforts began in 1945, and by 1948, production resumed. During this time, around 30% of the production was destined for export, and the company employed approximately 50 workers, with more than 100 working from home.
Over the years, Filt 1860 has expanded its presence across various industries, including mussel farming, leisure, storage, agri-food, and hunting. In 1990, following the sale of the Établissements l'Honneur, the company officially became Filt 1860, continuing to uphold its legacy of French craftsmanship.
Today, Filt 1860 remains a symbol of dedication, innovation, and high-quality production, with over 160 years of experience exporting to more than 50 countries worldwide.
In the 2000s, Jean-Philippe and Catherine COUSIN took the helm of Filt 1860, ushering in a new era of revitalization. Their leadership marked the beginning of a renaissance for the company, with a renewed focus on participation in trade fairs, the revival of shopping nets, and innovations in technical textiles.
In 2017, Filt 1860 earned the prestigious Living Heritage Company (EPV) label, recognizing its exceptional craftsmanship and commitment to quality. This label, awarded by the Ministry of Industry, is one of the most esteemed honors in France, granted to companies that exemplify French excellence. Today, Filt 1860 is proud to be part of the 1,400 EPV companies across France.
In 2019, Filt 1860 relocated its operations to Mondeville (14), continuing its legacy of growth and innovation. In line with this spirit of renewal, the company launched its new website and unveiled a modern visual identity in 2020, strengthening its presence in the market and reinforcing its commitment to high-quality French manufacturing.
At Filt 1860, we take pride in more than just crafting exceptional cords and nets—we are deeply committed to infusing our work with meaning and values that resonate with us: Authenticity, Openness, and Commitment.
Authenticity defines us. Every product we create is made in France, honoring the rich heritage of craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. We are dedicated to perpetuating this know-how, ensuring that all Filt 1860 products are not only durable but also tailored to the specific industries they serve, maintaining the integrity of our long-standing traditions.
Openness drives our global reach. Despite being a human-sized company, we proudly export our products worldwide. We understand the importance of respecting cultural differences and leverage this understanding as a competitive advantage. Our diverse team, with individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences, works collaboratively to innovate and design the nets of tomorrow.
Commitment is at the core of everything we do. We take our societal responsibility seriously, from supporting people with disabilities to offering training opportunities for future generations in our industry. We actively promote non-discrimination in hiring practices and are dedicated to environmental sustainability, working tirelessly to protect the planet while maintaining the highest standards in manufacturing.
At Filt 1860, we don’t just make products - we shape a future where authenticity, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility lead the way.
