The Origins of Filt 1860

Founded in 1860 in St-Sylvain, Normandy, Filt 1860 originally began as a cooperative of local farmers, producing high-quality nets and cords. The company was later led by the l'Honneur family, evolving into the renowned Établissements l'Honneur.

By 1910, the company had modernized its production process with mechanization, and in 1925, began its first export ventures. However, on June 6, 1944, at 3:30 p.m., tragedy struck: the city of Caen was bombed, and the factory was destroyed in the chaos of World War II.

Despite the devastation, Filt 1860 showed remarkable resilience. Reconstruction efforts began in 1945, and by 1948, production resumed. During this time, around 30% of the production was destined for export, and the company employed approximately 50 workers, with more than 100 working from home.

Over the years, Filt 1860 has expanded its presence across various industries, including mussel farming, leisure, storage, agri-food, and hunting. In 1990, following the sale of the Établissements l'Honneur, the company officially became Filt 1860, continuing to uphold its legacy of French craftsmanship.

Today, Filt 1860 remains a symbol of dedication, innovation, and high-quality production, with over 160 years of experience exporting to more than 50 countries worldwide.
