The Origins of La Rochère

For more than 500 years, surrounded by the flamboyant forests of Haute-Saône, we have been working with glass in an authentic and passionate way in Passavant La Rochère, making the company the oldest glass factory still in operation in Europe.
Our unique know-how is the legacy of several generations of men and women who have shaped glass, and passed on their knowledge.
1475
The history of La Rochère begins in Burgundy-Franche-Comté in the 15th century. Simon de Thysac, a gentleman glassmaker, settled in the Vosges mountains and created the factory for strategic and economic reasons. At the time, this region of France was a trade axis between North and South, Italy and the Netherlands. It was also a region turned towards Europe. "Bourgogne-Franche-Comté was ideal for raw materials, such as wood, silica, water"
Magic Matter
Every day, we are committed to creating new shapes, new patterns, new techniques to bring to life this magical and enigmatic material that fascinates us. Through our products, we want to continue to create a link between men and women, thanks to the authenticity of the glass, timeless, and ecological.
La Rochère has been labeled EPV since 2014. "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (EPV) is a mark of recognition from the state that distinguishes French companies for their industrial and artisanal know-how of excellence. Since its creation in 2005, the association of EPV-labelled companies has brought together companies with a unique heritage, which work to reconcile innovation and tradition, know-how and creation, work and passion, heritage and the future, local and international.
Guaranteed France origin
In Passavant-la-Rochère, more than 90% of the production is 100% French. More than 90% of the raw materials used are sourced in France as well. The sand, which makes up 60% of the composition, comes from Fontainebleau. It therefore seemed right and necessary to us to defend our know-how and our products (recognized throughout the world) with the one and only label officially attesting to the French origin of our manufactures.
La Rochère seeks and implements all possible improvements to limit its environmental impact. For example, we recover the calories from our oven to heat our premises. We are committed to manufacturing 100% recyclable items in France (excluding ceramics, glass architecture panels and bamboo). Thanks to the electrical energy of our furnaces, we have significantly decarbonized glass melting. 100% of our glass scrap is recycled. The other waste is sorted and handed over to recycling channels for more than 70%. Our teams are committed to a daily process of improving our energy performance.
